VACANCY FOR THE ROLE OF NETWORK OPERATIONS CENTRE MANAGER – LAYER3
Layer3 is a dynamic, innovative and professional services organization and systems integrator, specialized in the design, implementation and support of complex voice, video and data networks. With offices based in Lagos and Abuja, we are currently looking to employ a bright, vivacious, and innovative individual with expertise in IP and next generation networks to join us as our NOC Manager.
The role will be based in Abuja and the NOC manager will be primarily responsible for managing the core network infrastructure of the company. This individual will report directly to The Head, Network Group and will also be responsible for managing and coordinating the day to day tasks of the engineers within the network group. The NOC manager will ensure that the systems and technology perform optimally at all times and are constantly upgraded to remain relevant. He/she will constantly review and refine support documentations, processes and associated system requirements and drive implementation in line with industry best practices.
A significant proportion of the workload will be generated by unforeseen problems that may severely impact the network and the ability to prioritize & resolve problems in a timely fashion is a must. There may be a requirement to work outside normal office hours to undertake routine maintenance or resolve problems.
During the interview, we will be looking at how well the candidate demonstrates a level of competence & experience in the following:
• IP and MPLS technologies
• Network performance and optimization management
• Network troubleshooting and problem resolution
• Network risk management and decision making
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• • Leading the strategic and tactical activities to provide ongoing implementation of NOC best practices
• • Meeting all customer SLAs within budget
• • Creating the vision and direction for NOC Operations
• • Ensuring the NOC remains an efficient and effective component of our IT Support operations
OTHER AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
• Overall management of the NOC. Ensure continual process development and improvement within the NOC including but not limited to automation of NOC tasks and reporting, implementation of enterprise-wide monitoring initiatives, and routine administration tasks.
• Ensure standard operating procedures are maintained and executed
• Identify areas for improvement within the NOC environment and recommend enhancements for implementation
• Develops internal processes and solutions to track requirements, performance, and results regarding the delivery of services.
• Provide regular status reports and network performance information to the Management team including regular network trends and statistics and overall health and metrics for each client
• Collaborate with operations and field engineering teams to establish and document Network Standards and operational procedures to support all product offerings and meet SLA guidelines and stakeholder expectations. Participate in evaluating new potential technologies and products and make recommendations to management
• Ability to define, implement and enforce configuration management and change management policies and practices
Schedule and manage planned maintenance activities
Review customer network designs from Network Architects to ensure they conform with company standards
Manage and ensure vendor services conform to agreed SLAs
Ensures all members of assigned technical teams are effective and fully utilized in order to provide high resource utilization.
A degree in Computer, Electronics or Communication Engineering with certifications in Juniper Networks (switching, routing and/or security) and Cisco with working experience of Alvarion or other wireless technology and fiber networks will be an advantage. At least 3 years experience in a Service Provider environment working in a similar role will also be advantageous.
