CAREER TIPS:Marketing jobs in Nigeria are very stressful especially those that are solely based on commission. You have to work hard to earn a good living out of it.However,it is the only career that gives you the opportunity to earn as much as you want. The more you sell, the more you earn. Some of these marketing jobs in Nigeria are associated with both monthly salaries and sales commission while some are associated with only commissions.

B2B (Business to Business)sales are known for high profit but minimal sales volume. You may not sell many but profits from few can settle you for the year. Some companies hire their sales representative in contract basis while some hire them full-time. The companies that hire on part-time or contract basis, most times do not need to worry about monthly salaries and some other expenses associated with having a full-time employee. Full-time employers on the other hand, enjoy the benefit of fully supervising what their sales force are doing.

If B2B is your idea of marketing, you are required to know somethings about the concerned product or service. Getting a job as a B2B marketer is not always easy since the selling company will have to certify you as their representative. For you to have an edge over other applicants, you need to give the impression that you can meet target without denting the company’s reputation. The easiest way to do these is to have recommendable work experience from related job. How do you get the job experience? Simple. Start small. Go and help out an uncle or brother that has a registered business. Help him to sell and acquire the experience. Make sure you take note of your sales achievements periodically and quote it on your CV. Set targets for yourself and strive to improve. Why must it be a registered company? Because you need the statement to appear corporate on your CV or do you want to write your Alaba shop number? Registered company will also be useful in case your new employer decides to make some verification through Corporate Affairs Commission.

If retail or B2C marketing is what you want, you will have to decide whether you want to own the product/service or you sell for companies. Owning the products are easier but capital intensive. You need to have capital and also take 100% of the business risk. If you want to sell for a company, the risk reduces but job insecurity increases if the marketing job is target based.

Sales work experience is also very vital for most big companies while smaller companies can hire anyone once they meet other requirements.

Salaries : Marketing jobs in Nigeria attract pays based on the employment terms, prize of the product/service and your bargaining power. If the terms of employment states that you will be paid only salary, the size of your salary will then depend on the company size/policy,nature of job and your rank. If the employment terms states that you will be given only commissions, the size of your pay will be dependent on agreed percentage, price per product/service and the volume of sales. Therefore, marketers can earn from about N1 to millions of naira.
