CAREER TIPS: Logistics jobs in Nigeria as we said before, involves the management of the flows of resources from the place of birth or origin to the final customer.

The point of origin in this regards means the place where individual raw materials and information are coming from. Logistics handlers will have to procure(buy),package, warehouse and transport the resources to the processing plants. After processing/production, the resources will be repackaged, stored and flown to where they are needed. This does not just involve the movement of physical goods but also include intangible services and information. All the people involved in the buying, storing, transporting and processing of the resources, are said to be involved in logistics.

For graduate logistics career, the applicant will have to be equipped with skills relevant to the area of interest. Some logistics companies hire fresh graduates with no work experience and then train them. It is usually easier to get any logistics job available and then climb from there.

Packaging and warehousing opportunities are the easiest for zero experience graduates. This is because you will need little training to get the work done. Other logistics vacancies, need high level training and work experience. Even driving jobs are not easy to come by since they are very competitive to get. Because most logistics companies do not emphasize on qualification, more people apply.

Another disadvantage of applying for driving job in a logistics company is that most of their transporting vehicles are big lorries which tend to be bigger than what an average fresh graduate will drive. The companies will not even allow the graduates that will want to try since they will demand lorry driving experience. The bottom line is that you apply for any position, no matter how small and cheap it is.

Develop yourself in a particular field while working. You can train yourself during the weekends or any free period you will be having. Make sure your boss knows about your training. Start helping out in that area when you have acquired some skills. When you finish training yourself, let your boss know. You will stand a big chance of getting the type of logistics job you trained yourself for. This is because they no longer need to teach how their company function.

Professional logistics jobs in Nigeria need specific work experiences. Foreign/professional training is also very important.

Salaries : Logistics jobs in Nigeria attract salaries based on the type of job responsibilities, size of company, rank etc. You do not expect a project manager to earn same salary as the driver.Even the head driver cannot be paid the same amount with the lower drivers.

Entry requirements for Logistics Jobs in Nigeria: Depends on the area of specialisation. Most office related logistic jobs need a first degree while most field related logistic opportunities requires relevant work experience.

Apart from educational qualification, they also need qualities like:

• Organisational/planning skills

• High agility

• Commitment

• Teamwork ability

• Attention to details

• Ability to work under pressure

• Analytical skills

• Ability to travel

• Etc

Career progressionTrain and retrain yourself. Foreign certifications will place you higher than your associates.
