CAREER TIPS: IT jobs in Nigeria are becoming very rewarding in recent years. One big advantage of IT career is that you can actually earn a good living from working for yourself even if you do not get an office employment. It is also the only career that do not know geographical boundaries. You can reside in Nigeria while working for someone in Brazil. Most Nigerians do not take advantage of this opportunities. Many sit in their houses waiting for job openings in MTN and others.
Have you ever asked yourself how many people that seek the same job opportunity you are waiting for? What are your chances of being the chosen one? My dear, your chance may just be about than 1:10,000.
Why wait for companies, source your own job abroad once you are sure you can deliver.IT service clients do not need to see you.Internet does it all. All they need to see is the sample of what you have done before. You can easily send them a link to see the sample on request.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting an IT job in companies but everything is wrong about folding your hands and waiting for IT jobs in Nigeria. Do you know that you can even forget what you think you know when job opportunity calls? Keep practising. If opportunity calls, you will be ready to answer if you want office job.
Take challenging jobs from clients on the internet, work your way around the job, deliver good quality and on time but most importantly give reasonable budget. Do not sound too expensive or so cheap. Remember the clients are already taking a big risk by giving out a job without knowing you in person. If you sound too expensive, they will feel they cannot afford your services. Some may even take you as a scammer. If you sound too cheap, they will feel you will not deliver good quality.
Statistics have proven that 90% IT freelancers no longer appreciate full-time office jobs.I am personally one of them.May be i should share my story with you.Atleast you know that it takes only little chance to get sustainable IT jobs in Nigeria.
“I did my SSCE in 1997 after which i gained admission into Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) to read Mechanical Engineering. After my NYSC,i searched for a job even in shops but i could not find any.I later heard about Oracle and borrowed money to do it,thinking i will get a job immediately after the course. 13 months later,no job. A friend then told me to come to this same job site and read the career tips carefully. As at then, this site was only meant for Nigerians in the UK,no jobs in Nigeria. My first two days got me interested in only big salaries in Pounds£.Later,i decided to read through.I then realised endless possibilities in the IT career. The site advertised an oracle job internship in Wales,UK. The vacancy emphasized on evidence of practical experience. I told myself i should just apply though i was in Nigeria.Another section of this site also taught me how to get the evidence of practical experience before applying.I started surfing for IT freelancing websites.I registered in three of them. One week later, one of the sites contacted me for oracle 10g data-entry job.I charged just £200 for the job and delivered it within 5days.I used that as my experience to apply for the internship which i got unbelievably. To cut the story short,i now have a good IT career in Dublin.
